Sandra Cano (“Doe”) and 180 Women Hurt By Abortion
Applaud Supreme Court’s Ban on Abortion
The Justice Foundation’s Amicus Brief is cited in today’s Supreme Court’s ruling in the Partial Birth Abortion case, Gonzales v. Carhart. The Justice Foundation, which represented Sandra Cano, the “Doe” of Doe v. Bolton and 180 women hurt by abortion in the brief, applauds the Supreme Court’s ruling that upholds the federal ban on partial-birth abortion.
Recognizing that “some women come to regret” having an abortion, the Court stated, “Whether to have an abortion requires a difficult and painful moral decision” and is “fraught with emotional consequence.” The Court also noted that “Severe depression and loss of esteem can follow” an abortion, (p. 28-29) citing the Brief filed by The Justice Foundation on behalf of Sandra Cano and 180 post-abortive women.
“Abortion kills babies, and it is always wrong,” said Cano, who was the “Mary Doe” of Doe v. Bolton, the case that allowed partial-birth abortion and brought abortion on-demand to America through its “health” exception. “Abortion is a tragedy, and it hurts women, men, families, and the culture,” she said.
Cano believes that the Supreme Court’s ruling on the horrific partial-birth abortion procedure is the first step in dismantling abortion as the law of the land. She deeply regrets her involvement in the Court’s Doe ruling, the companion case to Roe v. Wade. Cano is available for interviews through The Justice Foundation. The Justice Foundation also represented 180 women hurt by abortion. The Justice Foundation has affidavits (sworn testimonies) from over 2,000 women who have suffered from abortion, including grief, depression, suicidal thoughts, and other severe physical and psychological trauma. All of these ladies asked the Supreme Court to uphold the abortion ban.
“Abortion hurts women. We are pleased that the Supreme Court is moving in the right direction and has recognized partial-birth abortion as the barbaric and unnecessary procedure that it is,” said Caron Strong, who is the National Director for Operation Outcry and was represented in the amicus brief. “All forms of abortion have horrific consequences, and we believe that abortion never should be allowed,” she said.
